Engineering an OCPP Platform for Reliable EV Charging

Beyond protocol compliance: state, connectivity, payments, diagnostics, and fleet operations.

OCPP enables interoperability, but it does not automatically create a dependable charging service. The platform must reconcile unreliable links, device variation, commercial rules, and operator workflows.

Treat state as distributed

The charger and central system can disagree after outages or retries. Use idempotent commands, correlation identifiers, explicit timeouts, and reconciliation routines.

Design for charger diversity

Vendors interpret optional behaviours differently. Maintain capability profiles, certification scenarios, remote logs, and hardware-specific operational knowledge.

Build for the operator

Prioritise fault triage, session visibility, remote recovery, tariff control, alerts, access management, and evidence that helps support teams act quickly.
